- Is there a limit for the maximum upload limit for files?
No. If there is any limitation, it comes from your server's configuration, and it can easily be increased to anything you wish. - Does it work with SSL?
Yes, you can use it with SSL, and there's no configuration involved. It's just a matter of running Afian under a https (secure http) address. Our personal opinion is that this method would be a bit excessive. But we all know that it puts people at ease about security...
- Is there a way to give guest access to read files?
Yes, and you can try it in our demo. Create or edit a user, and uncheck "User may modify files" and "User may upload files". This creates a read-only account. For instance, you can simply create a user named "guest"... edit its properties as shown above... then distribute the account around the office.
- Do I need to import all my documents into a database repository?
No. Afian doesn't move your files into database. The file repository is kept on the file system of the Web server. Afian doesn't change your files, and you can leave your data where it is now, so you can safely use it to manage your existing files and folders.
- Will administrators be able to browse documents without using Afian?
The files and folders are kept on the file system. Therefore, the administrator can make them accessible through other means, such as FTP or SMB. Or can choose to make them available only via Afian.
- Is this a "peer to peer" (P2P) software?
This is not a P2P application. This is a Web-based application that you access on your own Web site. Think of it as an "intelligent Web page" from your site that lets you access and share documents.
- Is this an online service, or can I run it in my own environment?
Afian is not an online service. It is licensed software that you run and maintain on your own Web server. If you are instead interested in "renting" Afian as an online data storage service, please contact us.
- Are there any restrictions about where on the server I can put it?
No. For instance, if your site is Hotmail.com, you can put it at http://files.hotmail.com, or http://www.hotmail.com/afian/ or at any other location, as long as it is on the domain for which you have registered it.
- What if later I want to change the operating system of my Web server?
Switching to a different platform won't interfere with Afian at all. You can switch to a whole different operating system - Linux, OSX Server - and leave everything about Afian, your users and their files intact. When you upgrade your server, the only consideration is whether it can run PHP. Luckily, PHP is supported on all platforms.
- How long does it take to install it on a server?
Installation is simple and it only takes minutes. Setup is assisted by a helpful Web-based installer. If you need help installing Afian, we can guide you through each step at no additional cost.
- Why are some files disappearing without a reason in your online demo? I made a change in your demo, and it was reversed!
There are other site visitors who are trying the online demo along with you right now, and they are logged in with the same demo user account.
